INDIAN STANDARD CODES FOR PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY

This Indian Standard (Part I/Sec 1 ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on 9 January
1990, after the draft finalized by the Packaging, Codes Sectional Committee had been approved
by the Light Mechanical Engineering Division Council.
The packaging code is being issued in the following parts each having one or more sections:

Part 1 Product Packaging
Part 2 Packaging Materials
Part 3 Ancillary Materials
Part 4 Packages
Part 5 Packaging Operations
Part 6 Storage and Transportation
Part 7 Packaging Machinery

This standard ( Part l/Sec I ) deals with foodstuffs and perishables.
Since more and more materials and processes are beginning to appear in large variety in the country,
there may be a possibility of alternative material becoming available. This may be kept in mind in
keeping with the shelf·life requirements.
Wherever applicable, the provisions of Rule 5 of Standards of Weight and Measure, (Packaged, Commodities) Rule, 1977 shall be complied with.

Additionally,  BIS.4261.2001 Glossary of Terms Relating to paper and Pulp based packaging materials.
