Thanks for giving comparative chart of syllabus year-wise & semester wise for the Printing Engineering (4 year BE degree course) among the best & renowned Universities/Institutions in India. Honestly speaking, it is very difficult to comment on the best syllabus of any university because all the four are the jewel of Printing Engineering in India.
              - As we know that Printing Engineering/ Industry is growing at a rapid space and there is vast scope for innovation in future, so as per rule of the nature i.e. survival of the fittest, we should adopt latest & ongoing development/ technology available around the globe in Printing Engineering in our syllabus and also we should keep some months in reserve for any future new development in the course of final semester so that the outgoing final year student be acquainted with the latest development in the Printing Industry at least to some extent.
            - We must appreciate the innovative course provided in 4th year 2nd semester by TATA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES, Mumbai regarding the NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN PRINTING (both theory & practical work)” for a period of six months. Moreover, the total numbers of courses in the final year only 6 in 1st semester & 5 in 2nd semester, which mean that the course pattern itself is not as overload to the students & give ample scope for free time to the students to know about latest/ new development in Printing Engineering, if any.
           - In contrast, if we go through the course pattern of Jadavpur University, the total courses in the 4th year 9 in 1st semester & 10 in 2nd semester, which mean that the course pattern itself seem to be overload to the students & give little scope for free time to the students to know about latest/ new development in Printing Engineering. So, some of the courses from both the semesters of the 4th year should be distributed to the 2nd & 3rd year courses. Moreover, Environmental Science presently in the course of 4th year second semester should be either merged with HUMANITIES -1 in the 1st year first semester course or may be dropped. Instead, the course “NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN PRINTING (both theory & practical work)” must be added in the 4th year second semester in order to be acquainted with the latest development in the field of PRINTING ENGINEERING in the world.

            - Regarding the course of 4th year of ANNA UNIVERSITY, it is seen that both the semesters are crowded with ELECTIVE SUBJECTS, which should be reduced. Moreover, no detail about ELECTIVE SUBJECTS are not given, hence clear comments can’t be made. However, only 2 nos ELECTIVE SUBJECTS are adopted by Tata Institute & Jadavpur University seem reasonable.
         - The course of 1st & 2nd years of Jadavpur University contain four MATHEMATICS (Math-1 , 2, 3, 4) in all the four semesters whereas other two universities adopted only two(Math-1, 2). So, the Math courses in Jadavpur should be reduced/ concise.
One course like Applied Chemistry/ or Chemistry for Printing technology (both theory & practical) may be added to 1ST year course of Jadavpur University, which is available in both other universities.
This shows the commitment to the industry & justification to the students. So, we should be prepare in order to adopt the latest technology & it is obvious by the rule of nature that we should re-look the syllabus and should concise, delete some obsolete/ less important topics from the syllabus and add the latest one in its place.
While going through some universities, it was seen that some universities are not so equipped with latest technological machines/ instruments and also with lack of Professors knowing latest technology. So they may stick to the old system & relatively old syllabus in order to keep their presence in the University.
            - Printing media is at present facing tough competition from the ONLINE Media, so we should keep the courses updated as per the advancement of the technology.
Based on my finding, further learned opinion may be collected from the Universities & from reputed persons of the industry for the overall development of Printing Engineering.

I would suggest reduce lot of non printing subjects and replace with core subjects. 85% of the students don't get benefit of it rather they work hard on non core subject to clear and may give less importance to core . Rather add more onsite training because institutes cannot afford to invest on lab. Every semester students should take projects of training industry people by what they learn, take trouble shooting projects and do problem analysis and give report to press owners, do technological comparison/ product comparison report if some press wants to invest in a technology, design a concept , machine etc., . They learn more when they teach and work on projects. When they finish BE., now they know where to join and industry will not complain they are not employable. Everyone should think
1.why 75% of the industry neglect printing institutes?
2. Why only 2-5% of the technical employees are printing technologist ( here i am referring to general market) .
3. Students should be given a individual product to study and give a complete feedback. R they ready for it.

There is no point in complaining students leave printing field , switch over, no passion etc., love and passion comes when they teach what they learn. This should be injected when they study in college.

I shall give you an opportunity to revolutionize the industry by teaching. Other do in your areas. Panthala
